If you want to get out of the slipshod world of text/html and Flash, and into the unforgiving world of HTML5 which is “strict”- _HTML5 Up & Running_ is the book to start you on your way. And Mark Pilgrim, well known in web geek circles is the guy to write it. The book methodically starts with the history of HTML5, and then segues into testing for support as well as fallback measures for those who need to add HTML5 to their sites.
If you’re versed in Javascript, CSS and HTML, you should have little problems understanding the code examples and using them in your sites. So I really recommend picking up the eBook either in ePub or PDF form —ORA provides both DRM free, code use is also royalty free, unless noted.
If you’re puzzled about how video, geolocation, or local storage is handled in HTML5, you shouldn’t be for long.
Some nice touches in the eBook: hot links everywhere, repeated at the end of every chapter for further reading. For those who will just stick with the print version, http://bit.ly/ links that are easily typed. But seriously: I strongly recommend that you pick the eBook if you’re ‘just going for paper.’
This book, along with a few others are never leaving my iBooks.app shelf. If you want to know the depth & ramifications of using HTML5, this book should be on your shelf as well. Highly recommended.
Disclosure: I received a free ebook copy for review purposes.
